Collana LAZIO RITROVATO. Ricerche e restauri
Two thousand years of history come together at Palazzolo, situated on the step, wooded slopes of Lake Albano in the Commune of Rocca di Papa. From the Roman settlement, shown by the surviving rock tomb, to the religious house which belonged to various Orders before coming into the hands of the Venerable English College, the book covers events at Convento di Palazzolo and the neighbouring Villa Colonna now called the Villa del Cardinale through a careful investigation stemming from the important Jubilee restoration project. The unifying thread is the Convento itself, around which are spread rural scenes, figures of enlightened Popes and lesser artists, whose activity at long last merits attention; alongside the history there are specialist and technical studies on the methodological choices made in course of the recent restoration which, with this book, contributes to the discovery of one of the most enchanting corners of the Castelli Romani.
